Dear Friends, Over the next few years, one of the greatest challenges on the Northshore will be to produce a workforce that meets the needs of the new economy. Sadly, too many businesses have been unable to fill job openings, forcing many to leave the region and state. Ever since Katrina, the Northshore has been facing an acute labor shortage. Our area has a large number of retail and restaurant businesses resulting in the need for thousands of low to moderate wage jobs that are currently not being filled. Over the past few decades, workforce development has been a critical problem in our state, as too many businesses have been unable to fill job openings, forcing many to leave Louisiana. Unfortunately, Louisiana does not have an adequate supply of skilled and educated workers. |

Dear Friends, Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to speak with area artists at the Brunner Gallery in Covington and share with them my appreciation for the important role of the arts and cultural industry in our state. Dear Friends, Over the past few weeks, I have been walking the district and visiting with voters about their top concerns. Without question, one of the major issues in our district involves transportation. There is justifiable concern about the increased traffic congestion and the deteriorating condition of our major roadways. This problem negatively impacts our quality of life and harms the economic prosperity that our region is enjoying. |

Dear Friends,
Over the past few weeks, I have been walking the district and visiting with voters about their top concerns.
Repeatedly, people mention to me about the need to restore our coast and provide our area with an adequate buffer against dangerous hurricanes.
Louisiana, levees, Katrina, coastal restoration ...
